CALL
The Center for Choreography Bleiburg/Pliberk (CCB) is once again looking for short performances and other formats for the 20th edition of the Long Night of Dance. The selected program will be presented in 2026 in the Alpe-Adria region, in the cultural city of Villach, Carinthia.
The call is aimed at companies, dancers, choreographers, performers, and artists who would like to present a short performance or other formats — partly in very unusual locations — within the framework of the Long Night of Dance. We explicitly invite cross-disciplinary, audience-interactive, and technically demanding dance performances. Furthermore, we are open to new and unconventional formats that are thematically connected to dance (e.g., video, photography, audio walks, workshop formats). The deadline is September 15, 2025.
The Long Night of Dance annually transforms a city for one entire evening/night with up to 20 performances at outdoor and indoor venues. With this, the Center for Choreography Bleiburg/Pliberk aims, on the one hand, to bring contemporary dance and performance to different places in the Alpe-Adria region, and on the other hand, to lower barriers to dance and cultural events by activating the whole city as a stage. A strong focus is placed on presenting a wide spectrum of the international contemporary dance scene.
The thematic focuses of the Long Night of Dance 2026 are:
- New forms of dance
- Age/aging as expression
- Innovation & digitality
- Dance in dialogue with live music
- Emerging artists & new generations
Submissions should address at least one of these thematic focuses. We also accept several proposals from one artist/company/collective.
TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS
Arrival in Carinthia must take place no later than July 9, 2026, with departure on July 12, 2026. Availability for the entire event period is required.
Performances or other formats should not exceed 25 minutes. Exceptions for longer performances/formats are possible.
Most performances will take place in unconventional locations (for example, in parks, on concrete, in winding streets, etc.). Adaptability and flexibility regarding performance location and technical requirements are essential. Site-specific performances and concepts are explicitly encouraged.
Set-up and technical rehearsals must be adapted to the local conditions and schedule. Performances that take place outdoors and at night must be highly flexible in terms of lighting.
Due to the concept and size of certain venues, some performances may be shown twice in one evening. In addition, artists agree to possibly take part in short (2–3 minutes), improvised “street impressions” (to be developed on-site with the artistic director Anna Hein) as well as in an artist talk.
WE OFFER
- Fees
- Accommodation
- Travel costs
- Technical equipment will be provided by arrangement, as well as technical support and assistance. (We are very happy if artists also bring their own sound and/or lighting technicians.)
ABOUT THE CCB
The Center for Choreography Bleiburg/Pliberk (CCB) was founded in 2011 as a platform for contemporary dance in Carinthia. The patron of its founding was Johann Kresnik (1939–2019), dancer, choreographer, and director born in Bleiburg/Pliberk, and one of the pioneers of choreographic theater. The aim of the CCB was and still is, in the tradition of Johann Kresnik’s work, to connect contemporary dance with socio-political engagement.
The Center for Choreography Bleiburg/Pliberk welcomes applications from people of all ages, genders, nationalities, people of color, and applicants with refugee or migrant backgrounds!
