On different places in Bleiburg

18:30 until midnight

A city invites to dance! On June 17, 2023, Bleiburg will once again become the stage for the “Long Night of Dance”, organized annually by the CCB Center for Choreography Bleiburg / Pliberk. The audience walks along marked routes through the city and thereby encounters up to ten contemporary dance performances at various locations. Working with the specificities of each site, dancers from over nine countries present contemporary dance in all its diversity, suggesting an innovative perspective on the city of Bleiburg. The compact production gives the "Long Night of Dance” a festival character, defined by extraordinary site-specific confrontations with contemporary dance. PRODUCTION „Blood & Milk“ of the female research group FRAUENWERK

Under the direction of Imke Logar-Thiessen, a group of 12 women came together in Bleiburg at the beginning of 2022 to research feminism together and to implement the results in dance and acting.

8 performers bring historical female figures to life, dazzling personalities from Maria Theresia to Alice Schwarzer encounter each other. In times of the pandemic and wars, women are thrown back to traditional roles. Violence increases, femicides, sexism, despair! But resistance grows, the plight of women drives them to the streets and the stage! The image of women changes rapidly and at the same time falls back into old roles, the new gender identity of queer movement stirs up. We show how urgent the continuation of feminist thought is. A funny tragicomedy about women, with women but not only for women!

FAUSTLOS - Schoolproject on violence in Lavamünd

The CCB (Choreographic Center Bleiburg), founded under the patronage of the international choreographer Johann Kresnik, offers a new mediation program for schools in Carinthia. Working against violence in various forms was central to his life's work. A school location like Lavamünd is ideal for this theme. This project offers the opportunity to draw attention to the topic of violence in various forms, to raise awareness and to learn techniques to deal with it.

Active, creative design in collaboration with various artists and professionals offers children and young people fear-free access to the topic. Violence concerns us all! Preamble: Due to increased pressure, digitalization and changes in family constellations, violence in new forms is on the rise (internet, bullying, destruction of nature, violence against oneself, etc.). In order to raise awareness for this topic, the CCB in Lavamünd offers the project "Faustlos". Artists from the fields of art, music, dance theater, literature, comics and photography work on different areas of violence in a project week and create presentations that are shown at selected places on "VIOLENCE Day". The offer is directed at schools in Carinthia and it is carried out in small groups in a topic-specific and age-appropriate manner in cooperation with the pedagogues. Methods corresponding to the respective art forms are used, which help to deal with aggression in a playful and creative way and to find solutions for conflicts. Finally, the results are shown to the public as part of the "VIOLENCE Day".

In the past school year, the Faustlos project was successfully implemented in the school town of Völkermarkt. This offer is now being extended to other locations. In this way, attention is drawn to the topic in Carinthia and a call is made to not to look away idly, but to react adequately and to protect oneself and others.

  • Date: 26.06. bis 30.06.2023
  • Closing Event "VIOLENCE Day" 30.06. in Lavamünd
  • Project Managment: Imke Logar-Thiessen
  • Mentor: Mag.a Anna Rutar

RESIDENCY "HEY, HAY!" IN BAD EISENKAPPEL

Residency in Bad Eisenkappel 26.05. - 03.06. with a Showing on 03.06.

More information soon!

The project is a collaboration between Slovenian and Austrian artists (choreographers, dancers, light designer, costume designer, dramaturg and musicians). Embracing the idea of the common geographical roots, cultural cross and the similarities of the shared space across national borders (Austria/Carinthia - Slovenia), we dive into childhood memories and collective consciousness to uncover myths around the “land”.

In the past the whole rural life evolved around the change of seasons and the work on/with the land. Nowadays we take the soil we put our foot down on for granted. We forget about the care and the draining hours spent to make nature nurture us and instead we consume faster than we can plant. The exposure of rural “kitch”. We go “bio”, we go “eko”, we go “all natural'', we buy “bio”, but do we really? We think we control nature but we deeply depend on it. People need to be nourished, with all kinds of food produced, in one way or another extracted from natural resources, from close by to faraway places.

LABOR – Experimental field for uprising choreographers and dancers

04.08. - 13.08.2023 at the Domenig Steinhaus

There will be an open call in February/March. Stay tuned!

After several years of preparation, the Center for Choreography Bleiburg/Pliberk organizes its first edition of LABOR – experimental field for uprising choreographers and dancers at the Domenig Steinhaus in Steindorf at Lake Ossiach. The LABOR serves as an incubator for the next generation of artists and supports them in developing their own choreographic language as well as in experimenting with different compositional tools. LABOR aims to establish networks and has been developed as a supports for emerging choreographers and dancers across Europe and beyond. For this purpose, the Center for Choreography Bleiburg/Pliberk is looking for choreographers and dancers.

There will be a call for proposals for both choreographers and dancers. Both calls are aimed at emerging artists who are at the beginning of their career. The focus will be on those who have completed their training in the last three years, those who are re-entering the field, those who have made a career change, or those who can demonstrate that they are at the beginning of their career.

For several days, the invited choreographers will have the opportunity to work on short pieces with dancers under the direction of this year's mentor Guido Markowitz. A major focus is the site-specific work in Domenig Steinhaus. Every evening, the results of the day will be shared in internal showings. At the end of the LABOR, the choreographers will have time to delve deeper into one of their short pieces and work on it for the final public showing. For the first edition of LABOR, 3-4 choreographers and 7-10 dancers will be selected from the applications.

We would like to invite four choreographers and eight dancers. Every day we will work in a new constellation, so that on one day we will work on a solo and on another day on a duo or trio. In addition to that, the mentor gives new places to work and also a specific theme on each day. The themes will be communicated in advance so that the choreographers can prepare themselves. We want to invite representatives of the contemporary dance scene to the individual showings to enable networking. The program lasts one week and short pieces will be worked on for 7 days.

Development of the production about Christine Lavant (Production 2024)

We are very happy to be one of the winning projects of the open call of the “Kärntner Kulturstiftung”. The choreographic theatre production about Christine Lavant will premiere in spring 2024!

The goal of the literary-biographical theater project Christine Lavant - "I am immoderate in everything" is to use the artistic means and possibilities of choreographic theater to approach this extraordinary poet and woman in a way that breaks down the stereotypes and simplifying attributions of the past that have often stood in the way of a deeper understanding of her work.

For decades, Christine Lavant (1915-1973) was confined by her Catholic publisher (Otto Müller in Salzburg) to the role of a poor, sick knitter who struggles with God and miraculously writes poetry. Christine Lavant's distinctive feature and strength, however, is her incorruptible look at what is wrong in the human condition and her loving eye for those with whom life has been less kind. She is the poetess of poverty and she is the poetess of (mostly unfulfilled) love. The basis for this is her experience at first hand and an almost ghostly ability to empathize with others. Christine Lavant's poetry and her prose are the work of a highly gifted, emotionally and socially sensitivenand inquisitive woman who educated herself through incessant reading and a keen social intelligence. Since Klaus Amann has recently succeeded in obtaining the consent of the rights holders on the part of both Christine Lavant and Werner Berg to a partial publication of their correspondence, the artistic community and the Berg-Lavant love affair will form the core of the theater project.
