CALL

The Center for Choreography Bleiburg/Pliberk Johann Kresnik (CCB) is looking for performances and other formats for the Long Nights of Dance 2025 in Carinthia, Austria! This will be the first year that the Long Nights of Dance will be held over two or three evenings in different locations across Carinthia. The events will take place on May 29 – 31, 2025. Selected performances or other formats will be performed on all days in different locations. The cities and the decision if there will be two or three events will be confirmed soon.

The call is open to companies, dancers, choreographers, performers, and artists who want to showcase a performance or another special format at some very unusual locations during the Long Nights of Dance. We explicitly invite cross-disciplinary, audience-interactive, and highly technical dance performances to apply. Additionally, we are open to new and absurd formats related to dance (e.g. video, photography, audio walks, workshop formats).

The Long Nights of Dance are an annual event held in various cities in Carinthia (Austria). Up to twenty short performances are presented along routes at both outdoor and indoor venues. The CCB's objective is to showcase contemporary dance across Carinthia and to reduce the barriers to accessing dance and cultural events. By staging performances throughout the city, the CCB aims to make these events more accessible to all.

The thematic focuses of the LNTs 2025 are:

  • Emerging artists
  • Innovation and digitality
  • New forms of dance

Submissions should address at least one of these thematic focuses. We also accept several proposals from one artist/company/collective.

TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS

  • Arrival in Carinthia will be latest by Ma 28, 2025, departure is probably on June 1, 2025. Availability for all two or three performance days is required. Support on how to travel there will be provided.
  • Performances or other formats should not exceed 25 minutes. Exceptions for longer performances/formats are possible.
  • Most performances will take place at unconventional locations (for example in parks, on concrete, in winding streets etc.). Adaptability and flexibility regarding the performance location and technical requirements are necessary. Site-specific performances and concepts are explicitly desired.
  • Setup and technical rehearsals must be adjusted to the time and location constraints. Rehearsals on-site can take place on the day of the performance. Performances that take place at night and outdoors must be very flexible regarding lighting (only basic lighting is available).
  • Due to the concept and size of the individual locations, some performances will be shown twice in one evening. Additionally, artists agree to possibly participate in short, improvised street impressions (developed on-site).

WE OFFER

  • Fees
  • Accommodation
  • Travel expenses for one round trip to and from Carinthia, as well as transportation between the event cities
  • Basic technical equipment as agreed upon, as well as technical support and assistance (We highly appreciate if sound/light technicians are part of the touring staff and the shows don't have to be run by technicians of the CCB).

ABOUT THE CCB

The goal of the CCB has been and continues to be to combine contemporary dance with social and political engagement, following the tradition of Johann Kresnik's work.
